Tobi's Biography

Tobi Britton is a celebrity Makeup Artist and owner of The Makeup Shop, NYC . For over twenty years, Tobi has shaped the faces of hundreds of models and actresses, and taught the art and craft of makeup design and application to hundreds of professional makeup artists. When not working in the film, television and fashion entertainment industries, Tobi can be found in the Makeup Shop’s Professional Training Center passing on her knowledge and skills to people eager to learn.

Tobi’s Training Center aka “Makeup Bootcamp” was created out of her need to supply her photography and commercial clients with high caliber makeup artists when she was not available to work on the shoots herself. Before she knew it, her teaching skills were in high demand and Tobi teaches on a regular basis.

Tobi’s philosophy? “Makeup design and application are skills, and skills can be learned.” Her secret? Tobi simply teaches other artists the skills to use makeup in new and updated ways. Her own skills have made her an invaluable asset to her clients. Tobi is an image-maker who defines and designs individual looks for individual people. “People don’t have one-size-fits-all faces,” reflects Ms. Britton, “so no one formula fits two different people.” And with rapid advancements in both product development and makeup application, Ms. Britton knows that professional makeup artists must continually update their knowledge and skills in the art and craft of makeup design and application

Tobi feels that keeping current with the industry trends are crucial to being a good teacher, so she continues to maintain her freelance career that helped her launch The Makeup Shop in the first place. The list of celebrities that she has worked on is extensive, and has included three seasons as Makeup Department Head of the television show “Cosby”. Her clients are not limited to the entertainment industry and have included companies like IBM, Phizer, AT&T and the US Navy.

Political clients have included former President Clinton and President Nixon, Mayor Koch, and Governor George Pataki.

While maintaining a small business and a freelance career keeps Tobi busy, she still finds time to mentor young, aspiring makeup artists by working with “City As School” and The Executive Internship Program from the Dept. Of Education of New York. She also has created an internship program at The Makeup Shop which helps groom artists for freelance makeup work by mentoring and teaching responsibility, reliability and workplace ethics.
